Job Description
Legal-Intern-Part-Time
Basic Purpose:
Positions in this job family will be assigned responsibilities involving responding to inquiries from agency staff and the public, legal research work, reviewing license applications for eligibility, assisting in investigating and preparing documents in disciplinary cases, preparing responses to subpoenas, discovery requests, and open records requests, and providing technical legal assistance to office staff.
Typical functions:
Researches legal data including court opinions, statutes, and administrative rules; prepares rough drafts and/or final forms of a variety of legal documents.
Assists with license application reviews and investigations to ensure license eligibility as well as accuracy of data and facts.
Assists attorney(s) in the preparation and filing of court actions.
Answers inquiries concerning basic legal issues from the public and agency personnel.
Assists in responding to subpoenas, open records requests, and discovery.
Develops and maintains files on research resources.
Level Descriptor:
The legal intern job family consists of only one level and incumbent employees will be responsible for performing all functions associated with the position.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include knowledge of legal procedures and documents; familiarity with legal research resources (such as OSCN.
net and Oklahoma’s administrative rules page) and the ability to navigate such resources; ability to gain competency with internal records systems; ability to conduct legal research and prepare appropriate materials for use in court; ability to evaluate, summarize, and report results of research and investigations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Admission to and current enrollment a legal studies or a similar program at a college, university, or career technology school.
