Job Description
Assistant General Counsel
About the Position: The incumbent will support the functions of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and will represent the agency, it's Board, and agency personnel in legal proceedings.
The position is responsible for a wide array of legal issues to include employment law, constitutional law and civil rights, EMTALA, mental health law, department investigations, legislation, policies, ethics, and litigation in all state and federal courts along with other tribunals.
The incumbent will prepare and try both routine and progressively difficult cases.
This position may be filled as a level II, III or IV based on the selected candidates’ qualifications.

Primary Working Hours are M-F; 8am-5pm
FLSA Status: Exempt
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Level IV: Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar with a minimum of eight years’ experience in practicing law.
Level III: Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar with a minimum of six years’ experience in practicing law.
Level II: Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar; and three years’ experience.
Preference may be given for civil and administrative litigation and trial experience.
Special Requirements: Must be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
